West Irondequoit:  May 17, 2009 after a courageous battle with an extended illness.  Predeceased by his wife Esther.  He is survived by his children, Judy (John) Corin, Thomas (Sharon) Barauskis, Joan (Michael) Lischak, Jean (Anthony) Gaudio; Grandchildren, Tom Johnna, Brian, Victor, Jodie, Anthony, Tommy, Christina; and 8 Great-Grandchildren.

A WWII Veteran, Vic joined the RPD in 1941 and after serving a short time with the RPD, he entered the Army Air Corps.  He served in France, “Normandy” Germany and England.  When he returned home in 1945, he regained his position with the RPD and was known as “Big Vic of Charlie 12”  Vic retired after 38 years of service to our community.  He was one of the few remaining members of the 60 club.  Actually, Vic never worked a day in his life because he spent his whole career working night.

Raymond Cleary passed on June 20, 2009. A man of courage, loyalty, and love of family.  Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary; brother, James, and sister-in-law, Hildreth "Sis". Ray is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Helene Thompson Cleary; children, Matthew, Daniel (Kristen), Colleen (Peter) Leach, and Susan (David) Damelio; sisters, Mary Catherine Parshall and Helen Rogers; grandchildren, Sean, Harley, and Danielle Cleary, Mitchell, Quinn, and Jack Leach, Davis and Sabrina Damelio; several nieces and nephews. Ray was a proud Marine Korean War veteran, City of Rochester Police Officer for 36 years, and owner of Cleary Escorting Service for 36 years. GREECE:  Detective Donald Bunce passed on July 9, 2009 at the age of 86 after a long illness.  Predeceased by his brothers William & Roger.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Delores Buttaro Bunce who was the love of his life; beloved children Dian (John) Holborn, Gary (Suzanne) Bunce, James (Kim) Bunce, Richard (Jaime) Bunce; beloved grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Holborn, Anthony Bunce, Laura Bunce, Krystal Waters, Kristine Bunce, Mary Bunce, Nicholas Bunce, Jacob Bunce, Julia Bunce, Olivia Bunce, Justin Bunce; sisters-in-law, Pat Bunce, Frances Quinlan, Suzanne Buttaro; nieces, nephews and dear friend.  Don was an Army Veteran of WWII and a retired Detective Supervisor with the Rochester Police Department.  He retired after 34 years of dedicated community service.

Gates:  Detective Raymond Ciufo passed on July 17, 2009.   Predeceased by his parents, Antonio & Stephanetta and brother Leonard Ciufo.  He is survived by his wife, Louise (Restivo) Ciufo; son, Raymond (Renee) Ciufo; daughters, Gerri Grandi and Linda (George) Taylor; grandchildren, Daniel Ciufo (fiancée Rachel), Renee (Glenn) Ferrett, Eric Eklund, Britt Eklund and Melissa Taylor; 3 Great Grandchildren, brother Anthony Ciufo, sisters, Josephine Ciufo & Lucy (Dave) Forrucci; sister-in-law & brother-in-law Sue (Vince) Farruggia and many nieces and nephews.  Ray was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and retired after 40 years of police service with the RPD.  He was a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, The ARPALER and the Police Benevolence Assocation.

Major William Mayer passed on July 30, 2009 at the age of 65.  He was born in Rochester on June 26 1944 to Franklin and Ruth Doser and had lived in this area for many years.  Mr. Mayer was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of Vietnam, a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, a member of the Kendall Lions Club and the Brockport VFW.  Bill was a graduate of Monroe Community College, FBI National Academy, and retired as a Major from the Rochester Police Department in 1989.  He is also a former Chief of Police for the Village of Holley.  Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol, daughters: Bar (Ed) Snyder of Albion, Debra Mayer of Batavia, Son: Richard (Donna) Mayer of WA.; grandsons. Andrew Krantz, Nicholas and Alec Mayer, sisters: Kathleen (Earl) Hinkson, Christine (Steve Watkins) Mannara, brother; Donald (Jody) Mayer, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Officer Anthony Arena passed on August 27, 2009 at the age of 74 years.  He was predeceased by parents, Rosario & Josephine; his brother, Joe and sister Annette.  He is survived by his wife Grace (Davenport); children, Darla (Carl) Fragomeni, Renee (Tony) Vicari, Glen (Valerie) Farabella, Angel Trovato (Tony Vicari), Diana (Mike) Krivitza, John (Loretta) Arena & Jeff (Treasa) Arena;  sixteen grandchildren and 3 brothers, Rosario, Vincent and Thomas (Don).  Anthony was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, having served in Korea, and retired from the RPD after his dedicated service

Captain Charles Sorochty passed on  October 25, 2009 at the  Age 91. Devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Mary; sisters, Stella and Ann; brothers, Michael and Steven. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Helen (Federation) Sorochty; children, Roger (Barbara), Charlene, and Carl (Rena); 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, John, Nicholas (Donna) and Harry (Margarethe); many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Charles was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, a retired Captain in the Rochester Police Department (1947-1979), a member of Ukrainian American Club, St. Josaphat Seniors, John Onufryk Post, Rochester Police Benevolent Association, Police Rosewood Club, Rochester Police Locust Club and The ARPALER.

Major John McGurn passed away Nov.12, 2009, in Largo, Florida at the age of 75.  “Sandy” as he was known to many was a native of Rochester, NY, where he retired as after 30 years of service at the rank of Major of the Operations Division with the Rochester Police Department.  He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and proud of his Irish heritage. Sandy is survived by his companion of 22 years, Barbara Love; children Sean McGurn, Timothy McGurn, Patrick McGurn and Kathleen (Clint) Schrider, all of Rochester; grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob, Sarah, Arianna, Dalton, Lauren, Olivia and John; sisters, Lee (Jim) Chamberlin, Terry (Leonard) Whitcraft and Lorraine Weekes and special friends Pam and Les Lambert, of Atlanta.
Major McGurn was a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, the Police Benevolent Association and The ARPALER.

RPD Lieutenant Louis Genovese passed on December 11, 2009 at the age of 80 years.  He was predeceased by his wife Josephine; his parents Samuel and Rosalie; his brother Santo and his
son-in-law Robert McCartney.  He is survived by his children; Louis Genovese (Kim Pfromm),
Carol McCartney, and Samuel (Andrea) Genovese; grandchildren, Robert, Joseph, Samuel and
Anthony, brothers Robert (Ann) and Gerard Genovese of Las Vegas. Sister, Josephine Zalcyki;
many nieces & nephews.  Lou served with the Military Police in Japan in 1946 guarding
Segamo Prison and proudly served with the Rochester Police Department for 35 years. 
He is also remembered by his friend and companion of 23 years, Jeanette Lobene.
