Deputy Chief Clarence "Jerry" DePrez passed on September 4, 2008 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara (Bowe) DePrez and parents, Joseph & Mary (Frisch) DePrez; brothers, Joseph, Jean, Thomas; sister, Jane. He is survived by his children, David (Judith) DePrez, Michael (Claudette) DePrez, Elizabeth DePrez, Mary Jane (Daniel) Moran, lawrence (Mary) DePrez and Suzane 9 William) Stekl; brother Robert (Marion) DePrez; sister, Dorthea Lynd; sister in law, Barbara DePrez; grandchildren, John, Michael, Jeffery, Scott, Megan, Kimberly, Margeaux, Diane and Andrea; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Jerry played Box Lacrosse at the old Main Street Armory with among others, Jay (Tonto) Silverheels. He was a Championship wrestler in the 175lb weight class at Edison Tech., where he graduated Valedictorian of his class. He joined the Rochester Police Department on April 1, 1940 and retired as Deputy Chief in 1964. During his career he headed the Special Squad (Vice),helped start the Youth Bureau and Police Athletic League, created the Stardust Club for Teens and built the Model Railroad at Edgerton Park. He was an early Superintendent at the then new Police Training Academy on Scottsville Road. He was a pistol champion winning many medals at National Competitions, held at Camp Perry in Ohio, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1952. After his retirement he became Head of Security for Wegmans and after retiring again, he also worked for the Democrat and Chronicle. In their large 19th ward home, Jerry and Clara raised 6 children and in the late 40's and 50's provided temporary housing for refugees of World Ward II, troubled teens and others needing help. Jerry's Memorial Service was celebrated September 10th in the All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to a charity of their choice in his memory. |

Officer Roger "Bud" Roach passed on September 14, 2008 at the age of 84. He is predeceased by his wife Eloise Roach. He is survived by his daughter Dona (Charles) Garant; grandsons, Daniel & Eric Warren; great-grandchildren, Eric M. Warren and Alexis R. Warren; several nieces and nephews. Bud was a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a 21 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department - Member of the Rochester Police Locust Club - Rochester Police Benevolent Association - and a long time member of the ARPALER. Funeral services were directed by Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, and Officer's Roach's Funeral Service was celebrated at the Funeral Home followed by his interment in Oakwood Cemetery. |

Retired Officer Edward R. Hayflinger passed on September 14, 2008 at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra, three sons; Robert, Richard and Joseph; brother Bruce (Kathy) Hayflinger; sister Phyllis Sorrenti; Grandchildren, Kayla and Kelly; many nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and nephews and life-long friend Ron Kulp. Ed was a United States Navy Veteran and 20 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department. He was also a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, Rochester Police Benevolent Association, and a long time member of the ARPALER. Ed's Celebration of life was held on Sunday September 21st at Artisan Works, 565 Blossom Road. Officer William P. Coast passed on Friday September 19, 2008. Bill is survived by his wife, Teresa of 49 years; children, Billy (Mary) Coast, Colleen (Joe) DiMartino and Laura (Tom) Pelusio; Grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, & Dennis Coast, Joey, Andrew & Jackie DiMartino, Nick, Adam & Madeline Pelusio; sister Gloria Phillips; brother, James (Joanne) Coast; several nieces and nephews.His family received friends on Monday September 22 from 5-8 PM at the Funeral home, and Bill's Mass was on Tuesday - 10:00 a.m. at St. Salome's Church. Interment was at Irondequoit Cemetery. Officer Anthony "Tony" Day passed on September 30th, 2008 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Carole, daughters, Leanna (Thomas) Zakariassen of Norway, Lauren day, Grandsons Xander & Vincent Zakariassen; sister Ella Romano; many nieces and nephews. Tony was a 20 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a long time member in good standing of the Rochester Police Locust Club, the Rochester Police Benevolent Association and the ARPALER. Officer Day was one of the original officers assigned to the RPD "Public Safety & Education Section" and was also assigned to the RPD Accident Prevention Division. Funeral services were held at the Miller Funeral Home -335 Winton Road, and his Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anne's Church - 1600 Mt. Hope Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne's Building Fund, or the Knights of Columbus Council #11411. |

Sergeant Anthony "Tony" Donofrio passed on Wednesday December 17, 2008 at the age of 86. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Sister Ann D'Assisi SSJ, Yolanda Ruggeri, Alfred Donofrio, Eleanor (Ted) Piendel, Louis (Sheila) Donofrio, Jane Passino, many nieces and nephews. Tony retired from the Rochester Police Department as a Sergeant after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Police Locust Club, Police Rosewood Club, Police Benevolent, and The ARPALER. He was also a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Italian American War Veterans. Visitation were at the DiPonzio Funeral Home - 219 Spencerport Road, and his Funeral Mass was held at 9:30 a.m. on December 22nd at Holy Apostles Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be directed to the; Sisters of St. Joseph - 150 French Road - Rochester, NY 14618. |

Detective John R. (Jack) Hunt) passed on unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age 76. He is survived by his wife, Margarette Hunt; children, John (Sharon) Hunt, Donna (Alan) Traister, William Hunt, Jeannette (Marshall) Zimney, Richard Lapiana & Mark (Amy) Lapiana; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Pozzanghera; brother-in-law, Robert Hewes; sister-in-law, Else (John) Vella; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends.
Jack was a retired detective with the Rochester City Police Department. He was also a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, Rochester Police Benevolent, and a long time member of the ARPALER. Many of you will remember Jack when he was assigned to the Accident Division, and after his promotion, when he was assigned to burglary investigations in the Criminal Investigation Division.
His service was held at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Interment was held at the convenience of family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. |
