I am sad to report the passing of ARPALER Vice President John "Jack" Rein on Tuesday January 16th, 2007 at the age of 74. He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy M. Rein, and survived by his children; Linda Lorenzo, John Albert Rein, Carol Rein, James Rein and Judy (William) Green; his brother Robert Rein and special friend Rose Sonoga. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Jack served twenty years with the Greece Police Department, and retired as a Precinct Commander. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Past President of the Adirondack Long Rifles, and a long time member of the ARPALER. He was elected ARPALER Vice President and held the office for several years until his passing. There will be no calling hours, and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass, Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Church, 401 Rogers Parkway (Off St. Paul Street, near the Zoo entrance) Interment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make a contribution to: ARPALER - 1425 Lexington Avenue - Rochester, NY 14606 John was an outstanding long time ARPALER member, and as Vice President, he was a major force in starting and managing the ARPALER Bereavement Program. He will be sorely missed his fellow members of our association. |

Retired Rochester Police Sergeant Joseph Rotella passed away on Saturday March 10th, 2007. Predeceased by mother, Marietta; father Louis; sister, Josephine Mitrano. Survived by his beloved wife Catherine; daughter MaryAnn (Dave) Vaccaro; son, Louis (Lynnette) Rotella; grandchildren, David (Carla) Vaccaro, Vicki (Ron) Speziale, Michelle (Louis) Borrelli, Lauren, Alicia, Joseph and Lydia Rotella; 7 great-grandsons; stepchildren, Joseph (MaryAnn) Virgo, Vincent (Wanda) Virgo, Susan (Phillip) Scaccia; grandsons, Christopher, Randy, Danny; sister, Rose (Fred) Bennington; brother-in-law Charles Mitrano; sister-in-law, Annie Paone; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Joe Rotella was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and served in WWII. After his discharge from military service, he joined the Rochester Police Department and had a distinguished career, retiring after 36 years of law enforcement service. Retired Rochester Police Detective Gregory J. Valeri passed away on Thursday April 19th, 2007 at the age of 79 years. Greg was predeceased by his son Steven G. Valeri. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary (Marasco) Valeri; loving daughter, Francesca (David) Nesbitt; brothers-in-law & sister-in-law, Vincent Lippa & Dominic (Helen) Marasco; many neices, nephews. Greg was a WWII Veteran and retired from the Rochester Police Department after proudly serving for 30 years. He was a long time member of the Rochester Police Locust, Club, The Rochester Police Benevolent Association, and The ARPALER. Arrangements were taken care of by Falvo Funeral Home and his Funeral Mass was held on 9:30 a.m. on Sunday April 23rd at St. Ambrose Church. Major Richard B. Fairchild Sr. passed on August 11th, 2007 at the
age of 81. He was predeceased by his children, Matthew, Richard II
and Victoria
Fairchild.
He is survived
by his wife of 20 years, Naomi (Nee Layman); children, Kathryn Fairchild,
Elisa Weber, Melissa (Scoot) Padoleski, Sandra (Michael) Malley;
stepsons, Richard (Charlene) Raymond (Eden) and Philip Marsh; Many
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Major Fairchild was a World
War II Navy Veteran and served with the Rochester Police Department
for 27 years.
Family received friends 1-3pm and 6-8 p.m. at New Comer family Funeral Home 2636 Ridgeway Avenue, followed by a service at 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service was also be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at The First Bible Baptist Church, 1039 N. Retired Rochester Police Officer Joseph J. Scalone passed away suddenly on August 21, 2007 at his home in Lyndonville, NY. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Olive June Scalone; daughter, Sandra (James) Shaw, and Grand Daughter Roxanne Shaw; brother-in-law, Dominick Caccamise; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister, Annette Caccamise and Rosemary Billotti. Joe was a WWII Veteran and in 1948 became a member of the Rochester Police Department. He proudly served with the RPD for 26 years, retiring on 8-30-74. He was then employed by Marine Midland Bank for 10 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion Patchen-Briggs Post, Rochester Police Locust Club, The Rochester Police Benevolent Association, and a long time member of The ARPALER.His Memorial Mass was held at 11:00 am on Monday September 10th, 2007 at St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church in Hilton, New York. |

September 8th, 2007 at the age of 81. Lieutenant Marasco is survived
by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen; daughters, Donna (Dr. John)
Robb & Patricia (Lawrence) Conklin; Grandchildren, Lisa (Thomas) Messerklinger,
Lori (Mark) Monaghan, Lindsay Robb, Shawn & Brian
Peppers; Great-Grand daughters,
Annalisa & Alexandra Messerklinger; sister, Mary Valeri;
many nieces, nephews & friends.
Dominic was a United States Army Veteran and proudly served with the Rochester Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 1985 at the rank of Police Lieutenant. He was a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, Rochester Police Benevolent Association, The Police Holy Name Society, and a long time member of the ARPALER. His
Memorial Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 15th,
2007 at Holy Cross Church

November 6th, 2007, long time ARPALER member Anthony "Cider" "Tony" Reina
passed on at the age of 94 years. Tony
was a long time member of the ARPALER, and many of you will remember
him as the driver for Police Chief Bill Lombard. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 0098. He served 35 years with the City of Rochester, the majority of them assigned to the Police Department. He is predeceased by his wife Clara, sister Betty Masarella, brother Alfred, sister-in-law Carmella (Carly) Gambino. He is survived by his brother John (Millie) Reina, sister Mary Ciucci, sister-in-law Antoinette Reina, and many nieces and nephews. Tony's wake was held Thursday November 8th between the hours of 3-7 p.m. at Falvo Funeral home 1259 Fairport Nine Mile Pt. Road. His funeral Mass was held at Saint Joseph's Church 43 Gebhardt Road in Penfield. Internment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
