Retired Rochester Police Officer Daniel P. Brennan passed away on January 1, 2006 at the age of 62 at his home in Menifee, California.  He served 20 years with the Rochester Police Department (1969-1989) and after retiring, he moved to California and pursued a second career in teaching elementary school in the San Marcos School District.  Although he loved both careers, he found a special enjoyment and reward in teaching and working with children. 

He was born in Columbus, Ohio October 29, 1943, the son of Joseph E. and Sebastiana L. (Chessa) Brennan and was a graduate of Aquinas College High School in Columbus.  He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Vietnam War, and served many years thereafter as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science at the University of Rochester and went on to received a professional degree in teaching at National University in San Marcos, California. 

Dan was a member at Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Sun City and also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rochester Police Locust Club, and long time member of the ARPALER.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Julia, two sons, Greg and Mark Brennan, daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Kip Shipley and grandchildren, Kelsey and Tyler Shipley. sisters and brothers, Margaret Belli of Columbus, Joseph (Judith) Brennan of Ft. Myers, Fl., James (Janet) Brennan of Westerville, Ohio, Mary Ann (Michael) Watson of Irvine, CA., Eileen (Edward) Sims of Columbus, and Kathleen (Clarke) Hounsell of Readfield, Maine.  Several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday 1-7-06 - 11:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, Murrieta Rd. Sun City CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in the Name of Daniel P. Brennan.

SGT. EDMOND "Mundo" RANALETTA

Retired Rochester Police Officer and Monroe County D.A. Investigator Edmond Ranaletta passed away on January 5, 2006 at the age of 87.  He was predeceased by his wife Josephine and parents Laurino & Celeste Ranaletta.  Ed is survived by his son Raymond E. (Pamela) Ranaletta, grandchildren Raymond V. and Nicole M. - several nieces and nephews.  Edmond was a loving husband, father & grandfather. 

After many years with the Rochester Police Department, Ed joined the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, as an Investigator, and later was responsible for maintaining case evidence necessary for court trials. He was a local military hero, serving his country as a Tank Commander and Platoon Sergeant at the "Battle of the Bulge" in World War II.  He also saw action again in the Korean War.  He could best be described as easy going, generous, quiet, hard working and a loyal friend.  Ed was an avid golfer, bowler and loved a good card game.  He was also a loyal long time member of the ARPALER. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Villa, 3300 Dewey Avenue, Rochester, NY 14616.  Services will be arranged by Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home 1411 Vintage Lane.  Visitation hours will be Sunday, January 8th, 1-5 p.m. and his Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 9th, 9:30 a.m. at St. Theodore's Church, 168 Spencerport Road - Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Retired Rochester Police Sergeant Robert J. "Bob" Specksgoor passed away on February 12, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.  He leaves his loving wife Dotty of 60 years; his 2 daughters, Diane (George) Taylor and Gina Specksgoor; his 2 grandsons, Robert (Amy) Taylor and Dennis (Ronni) Taylor; 6 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Joe, Kristin and Dennis Taylor, Bret and Nicholas Mulrain. 

Bob served with the Rochester Police Department and retired after 37 years of dedicated service.  He was also a Navy Veteran of WWII where he received a Bronze Star as a Deep Sea Diver.  In addition to being a long time member of the ARPALER, Bob was also a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, VFW Post #307, American Legion Post #1182 and P.A.C. Club.

Friends may call Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road (between English and Latta).  Bob's Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Andrew's Church, 901 Portland Avenue - Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John entered into rest on March 23, 2006, at age 57, after a courageous battle with cancer. John retired on March 15, 2005, from the Rochester Police Dept. as a Sergeant in the Homicide Unit, after 35 plus years of service. Many of you will remember him during his last year of service as the supervisor of a special event or filling in on a platoon needing a uniformed boss, or his invaluable insight at a homicide or critical incident. He was our friend, our comrade, and will be sorely missed. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors.

John is survived by his wife, Patti (Imhof) Gropp; children Caitlin Rose Gropp, Christopher John Gropp; mother, Mary D. Gropp; siblings Gary (Valerie) Gropp, Nancy (Don) Anderson; father-in-law, Bernard Imhof; sisters-in-law, Anne (Ed) Chatt, CA, Susan (John) Whitaker; several nieces and nephews, relatives and close friends.

Calling hours are Sunday and Monday, 3-7 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1961 Ridge Rd., Webster. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 1460 Ridge Rd., Webster. Interment at Furnaceville Cemetary, Ontario N.Y., immediately following the church service. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Finger Lakes BSA (Babcock-Hovey) or Ontario Rod & Gun Club in his memory.

Retired RPD Officer David P. Hahn passed away on March 23, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave is survived by his wife Bridget (Finn); daughters, Kristen (Mark) Vickers of Spencerport and Laura (Richard) Knapp of PA; grandson Jack David Peter Vickers; sister, Ellen (Raymond) Grabb; sister and brothers-in law, Judith (Gary) Pettit, Timothy (Maureen) Finn, Michael (Judith) Finn, Daniel (Nita Jo) Finn, Sr. Maureen Finn and T. Andrew Finn; many nieces and nephews and close friends.

Calling Hours: Monday, March 27, 2006 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Anthony Funeral Chapel, 1031 Ridge Rd., Webster, NY. Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church, 783 Hard Rd., Webster, NY. Interment at Webster Union Cemetery.

Retired RPD Officer Daniel J. Glanton passed on April 9th, 2006 at the age of 78. Dan is survived by his wife, Florence; children, Darcy (Tom) Brenner, Daniel (Kim) Glanton, Danielle (Rich) Allport, Michele (Lee) Henhawk, Diedre Reeves, Thomas Duthoy, John (Julie) Duthoy, Michael (Julie) Duthoy, Deborah (Steven) Cappon; brother James Glanton; 17 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Officer Glanton was a Veteran of WWII as well as a 20 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department. He was a long time member of the ARPALER.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday, April 12, 4-7 p.m. at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc. 735 East Avenue - Hilton, NY. The service will also be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakeshore Fire Department or the Greece Volunteer Amublance.

Retired Rochester Police Department Police Commissioner Joseph E. Battaglia passed on April 28th, 2006 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene (Tornabene) Battaglia; sons Richard (Noreen) & Ray Battaglia; Brother Sam battaglia; Sister Josephine Gallia; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. There are no prior calling hours. His Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday May 2 - 9:15 a.m. at St. Ambrose Chruch - 25 Empire Blvd. (at Culver) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association - 2113 Chili Avenue - Rochester, NY 14624 - Internment is private.

I sadly report the passing of retired RPD Officer George Daley at the age of 87. George was also a veteran of WWII. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret. He is survived by his son George C. Daley, several nieces and nephews and close friends. His family will receive friends Tuesday 3-6 p.m. at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home 570 Kings Highway South (Corner of Titus Avenue) where his funeral service will also be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
