OFFICER SAMUEL P. PECORELLA

On March 3, 2005, Retired Officer and WWII Veteran Samuel P. Pecorella passed away.  Many of you will remember Sam from his many years of assignment in the Accident Prevention Division of the Rochester Police Department.  He was also active in retirement as one of the committee members that helped organize the "White Hats Dinner".  (So called because the APD officers
wore white police hats to distinguish them as accident investigators.)

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 58, Rose; devoted children, daughter, Barbara (Donald) Froehler; son, Louis Pecorella; Grandchildren, Lori (Larry) Feasel, Amy (Brandon) Bordwell, Mary and Sam Pecorella, Great Grandson, Jacob Feasel; sisters-in-law, Louise Sorbello, Sara Bellavia, Jenny (Angelo) Castronova, Ida (James) Gartin and Shirley (Pat) Garda, brother-in-law, Sam (Gail) Randazzo - several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Calling is: Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 at Falvo Funeral Home 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road, Webster (RT. 250 between Plank Road and State Road.)  His Funeral Mass will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church
(Empire at Culver Road).

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Fairport Baptist Home Comfort Care - 4646 Nine Mile Point Road Fairport, NY 14450, the Lipson Cancer Center, or your favorite charity.  Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

INVESTIGATOR JOHN WERNSDORFER Jr.
Rochester PD Retired

John Wernsdorfer passed away on March 4th, at 4:40 a.m. at the age of 58.  John was with the Rochester Police Department from February 17, 1969 until his retirement on June 30, 2001.  John served many years in the Genesee Section of the department, as both an officer and investigator. During his assignment with the Genesee Section he solved many crimes and was later assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section at the Public Safety Building. 


Funeral arrangements were held Monday March 7, 2005 at the Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 12777 SR 82, Fort Myers, FL.  The service was at 1:00 p.m. followed by internment at 2:00 p.m. where John was buried with he father John Sr.   The family and members of the Florida contingent of the Genesee Section want to thank everyone that helped and supported them with assistance and respect for John.  Especially the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol who supplied personnel.


John is survived by his mother, Catherine Wernsdorfer, wife Sandra (Cowd), his son John Wernsdorfer, daughter Rhonda (Brian) Flint, and two grandsons, Wyatt and Nash Flint.  A special thanks to John Sensabaugh, John Jacobs, and Dave Beswick for their vigilance, strength, and support for Sandy.

OFFICER JOSEPH M. KINSELLA
Rochester PD Retired

On April 10th, 2005, Joseph M. Kinsella passed away at the age of 79 years, while a patient at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Florence.  Son Larry (Lisa); Grandson, Michael; sister, Jean Nolan; several nieces, nephews’extended family and many dear friends.  Joe served honorably in World War Two as a U.S. Marine and moved to Cape Coral, Florida following his retirement from the Rochester Police Department in 1973.    Joe was a long time member of The ARPALER as well as the Rochester Police Locust Club and the Rochester Police Benevolent Association.

Funeral Services were held in Cape Coral, Florida.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday April 15 at 9:30 a.m.at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue, in Charlotte, where Joe grew up and lived until his retirement.

DET. THOMAS A. "Lucky" LUCIANO

On Wednesday April 13, 2005 retired Detective Tommy Luciano passé on.  He was predeceased by several brothers and one sister.  He is survived by his loving wife Mary; children, John Thomas Luciano, Lawrence (Diane) McEntee, Michael McEntee, Colleen (David) Baliva and Sneakers; grandchildren, Megan (Sean), Laura Beth, Molly, Karen Suzanne, Malerie, Morgan and Jusdina; great-grandson Logan; 2 sisters, Rose Dimora and Mollie Pellegrino; 2 sisters-in-law, Anne Luciano of Webster and Nettie Luciano; several nieces and nephews.  Thomas was a long time member of The ARPALER as well as the Rochester Police Locust Club and the Police Benevolent Association.  He was also an avid hunter and golfer.

Friends may call at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home, 2771 Chili Avenue, Friday 5-8 p.m. Funeral Mass, Saturday, 9:30 a.m at St. Pius the Tenth Church, Internment will be at St. Pius Cemetery.

DET. LAWRENCE J."LARRY" CATALFAMO

On May 3rd, 2005 at the age of 73, while residing in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Retired Detective Larry Catalfamo passed on.  Larry Catalfamo was a native of Rochester, NY and retired after 20 years of service with the Rochester Police Department.  During his service with the department, he was assigned to the Accident Prevention Division, Special Criminal Investigation Unit, and the Homicide Squad.  He was a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, the Police Benevolent Association, and the ARPALER.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Catalfamo and his brother John.

Survivors included his wife, Elsie Faye Stoke Catalfamo of Muscle Shoals; Stepchildren: Debra Russum of New York, John Russum Jr. of Texas, Anita Russum and Ricky Russum of Muscle Shoals; twelve granchildren, six great-granchildren and many cousins and friends.

His service will be held Saturday May 7th from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Morerison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia, AL.  His Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home chapel.  Reverand Billy Myrick will officiate.  Internment will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens.

SGT. DENNIS G. MURTAUGH

On September 4, 2005, at the age of 77 years, Retired Sergeant Dennis G. Murtaugh passed on.  Dennis was a native of Rochester, NY and retired after 30 years of service with the Rochester Police Department.  During his tour of duty, he was assigned to the Patrol Section, Police Complaint Bureau, and Headquarters Office.  He was a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, The Police Rosewood Club, The Police Benevolent Association and the ARPALER. 

Dennis was predeceased by his son Sean and brother Michael.  Dennis is survived by two daughters, Karen Murtaugh and Debra Chociej: Daughter in Law - Stacy Murtaugh; 7 grandchildren, Alicia, Caitin, Marleah, Matthew, Savanna, Logan, and Gavin; Brother Terry (Beverly) Murtaugh; Sister, Patricia (Joseph) Janiak and Kathleen Borgaro; Several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral arrangements were handled by Jennings Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home.  His Memorial was held September 9th at St. Jerome's Church.- East Rochester.  Those wishing may contribute to the American Red Cross, Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund - 50 Prince Street, Rochester, NY 14607.

SGT. JAMES E. KNOPE JR.

On Octber 12, 2005 Retired Greece Police Sgt. James E. Knope Jr. passed on.  He was predeceased by his parents James E. Sr. and Mary Jane Knope.  Survived by his brothers and sister Thomas C. (Donna) Knope, Marcia A. Nyhan (Rolf Miller), Gregory C. Knope & Mark J. Knope; nephews Brian C. Knope, Stephen A. Nyhan & Bradley T. Knope; great-niece Brianna Knope. 

James' Memorial Mass was held at 9:00 a.m. on October 15th 2005 at our Mother of Sorrows Church.  Internment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, masses may be said for the repose of James' soul.  Arrangements entrusted to Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home Inc. 

Sergeant Knope was hired by the Greece P.D. in 1965 as a police clerk, then as a Police Officer on 10-17-67.  He took a leave of absence from 1968-69 for his military service
in the U.S. Navy.  Upon his discharge, he returned to the GPD, and on 11-6-76 was promoted to Detective, serving as the Executive Assistant to the Police Chief.  On 2-8-84, he was promoted to Sergeant, and served as the  Assistant to the Chief until his retirement on January 6, 1990.

On November 6, 2005, Retired Rochester Police Officer John S. Flor passed on.  He was predeceased by his wife Edna; daughter, Marilyn; Grandaughter, Katherine; brother Thomas; sisters, Stella, Josephine and Sophie.  He is survived by his children, Theresa Cobb, Vivian (Frank) Schneider, Frances (Robert) O'Loughlin, Janet Flor, Katherine (Lance) Perkins, Cecelia (John) Slivick, Carolyn (Walter) Sypniak and Stephen (Janice) Flor; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  John was a 30 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department, Past Secretary of the Rochester Police Locust Club, Life member of the ARPALER, Member of the Police Holy Name Society, Member of the Police Benevolent Association, Former Chairperson of St. Stanislaus Parish Council, Past President of Polinia Civic Center, Member of the Holy Name of Jesus Society at St. Stanislaus, Knights of Columbus-Maximillian Kolbe Council, ECHO Club, PAC Club and Teamsters Local 118.  He was also the Housing Chairman for the Committee to Aid Newcomers from Poland.  John served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was a Corporal in the U.S. Army 5th Field Artillery.  During his tenure with the Rochester Police Department, he served in the Patrol Sections, Accident Prevention Division, and Professional Standards Section. His Wake was held on Wednesday 11-9-05 at the Michael R. Yackiw Funeral Home 1650 Empire Blvd. His Service was held at St. Stanislaus Church on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.  Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to Southern Tier Hospice and Palliaative Care, Corning NY or Friends of St. Stanislaus Foundation. Inc.

CAPTAIN EDGAR J. "ED" BASTIAN
Rochester PD Retired

Retired RPD Captain Ed Bastian passed away on November 14th, 2005.  He is survived by his beloved fiancee Barbara Healy; children David, Daniel (Susan), John (Tammy), Kim (Paul) Maira, 10 grandchildren sisters Shirley (Robert) Heiney & Margaret Bastian.  Captain Bastian was appointed a Police Officer in 1959, and retired as a Police Captain after 33 years of departmental service.  He was  proud member of the Damascus Shrine & a 32nd Degree Mason, Craftsman Robertson Lodge #969 F&AM.  Ed was also a member of the Rochester Police Locust Club, The Rochester Police Benevolent Association, and The Association of Rochester Police & Area Law Enforcement Retirees (ARPALER).  There are no calling hours, however, friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass Friday November 18th at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue and a reception to continue celebrating Ed's life at St. Paul Exempt, 690 Thomas Avenue immediately following Mass.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th Street. Erie, PA. 16505.

OFFICER JOHN F. "JACK" WILL
Rochester PD Retired

Retired RPD officer John F. "Jack" Will passed on November 18th, 2005 at the age of 75 years.  He is survived by his children, Dennis (Gerilyn) Will, Rosemary (Gary Lemcke) Ewanow, Paul (Mary) Will; 6 granchildren: 1 great-grandchild; and his brother, Ralph (Joanne) Will;  and nieces and nephews.   John was a retired Rochester Police Officer and served 38 years with the department.  After being sworn in and assigned to the patrol division, he was reassigned to the Safety Education Section and the Accident Prevention Division. John was also a military veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Friends may call onday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home located at 2125 Chili Avenue. 

His Funeral Masss will be Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church.
