LAST
ROLL CALL
CHIEF GERARD C. PAUL On August 7th, 2004 the ARPALER lost of one its active members when retired Greece Police Chief Gerard Paul passed on. Chief Paul was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII and served until the end of the war and received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant. In 1950, he joined the Greece Police Department and was promoted to Police Sergeant in the fifties. In 1961, he was appointed Chief of Police for the Town of Greece until his retirement on May 3rd, 1976. Many of you will remember that he was instrumental in the accomplishment of the use of individual radio frequencies for the Town and Village Police Departments in Monroe County. He maintained a low profile as Chief and went about the business of the administration of the Police Department in an unassuming manner. He was the recipient of awards from the Rotary Club, the Greece Business Association, the American Legion, the Chiefs’ Association etc. One of his main attributes was that he always had an open door policy and continually strived to remain on an even level with “his men.” After his retirement, he spent most of the years between here and Florida and generally enjoyed the golden years with his wife Grace until she passed on in 1998. He remained active in the ARPALER and The Chiefs’ of Police Association until he passed at 83 years of age. He is survived by his children, Thomas E. Paul, and Donna Paul Meyer; his grandchildren, Thomas D. Paul and Andrew, David and Brienne Meyer: niece, Mary Paul Beyer and her sons Zachary and Jacob. Contributions in his name may be made to the Gatesinger Company, PO Box 95, Pultneyville, NY 14538. THE ARPALER MEMBERS OFFER THEIR CONDOLENCES |
